Gunmen Kill Six In Benue Community Attack

299
A branch of the United Bank for Africa (UBA), in Ughelli, reportedly witnessed a violent attempt at robbery earlier today, as gunmen stormed the premises and engaged the police stationed at the bank in a fierce gun battle.

Gunmen suspected to be local militias attacked the Gugur community in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State on Tuesday, killing six people.

Local sources reported that the assailants arrived on motorcycles and launched the attack between 9 pm and 10 pm.

State House of Assembly member Jonathan Agbidye confirmed the incident on Wednesday, stating:

“Those people in that particular community were against the hoodlums; luck ran out of them, and they got hold of two of them in April and killed them.

“So the incident that happened yesterday was just a revenge mission. But the place is calm now. We went there with the police this morning.”

The Katsina-Ala local government chairman, Shaku Justine, also confirmed the attack, noting that it occurred between 9 pm and 10 pm on Tuesday, resulting in six deaths.

Justine and Agbidye conducted an on-the-spot assessment and reported that normalcy was returning to the village.
