The Attorney General at the Conakry Court of Appeal, Fallou Doumbouya, announced the seizure of 600kg of cocaine at the autonomous port of Conakry in a press release issued on Wednesday.

The operation was a collaboration between the navy’s floating brigade and judicial police officers from the central directorate of judicial investigations of the national gendarmerie.

The seized drugs, packaged in 20 bags of 30kg each, were found aboard a boat flying the Guinean flag. Four crew members—a Guinean, two Nigerians, and a Portuguese—were arrested during the operation, directed by the Kaloum district prosecutor’s office and supervised by the General Prosecutor’s Office.

A presumptive test conducted in the presence of the suspects confirmed the substance was cocaine. Following investigations, the suspects were charged with high-risk international drug trafficking and complicity, as stipulated under Article 812 of the Penal Code. They have been placed in detention by order of the Kaloum investigating judge.

In 2024 alone, Guinea experienced a notable increase in drug seizures, particularly involving cocaine and cannabis.

On July 3, Guinean authorities seized 4 kg of cocaine and €811,200 in cash from two Ethiopian Airlines passengers. On September 11, they arrested a Franco-Guinean passenger on an Air France flight carrying 6.8 kg of cocaine.

Beyond the airport, on June 11, 2024, special services seized over a ton (1,045 kg) of cannabis in Moussayah, Forécariah prefecture.

On April 18, 2024, anti-drug units confiscated 913 balls of “kush” and arrested two individuals in Conakry.

The Attorney General’s Office commended the coordinated efforts of the navy and the national gendarmerie, attributing the operation’s success to their vigilance and efficiency.

The office also reiterated its commitment to combating organised crime and assured the public of continued mobilisation by the criminal justice system.
