The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has arrested about 50 Nigerian nationals, including a landlord, in a major dawn operation at McCarthy Hills in the Ga South Municipality of Accra, over alleged involvement in cybercrime and human trafficking.

According to the GIS, the operation, which was conducted in collaboration with other national security agencies, followed actionable intelligence indicating that some foreign nationals were unlawfully residing in the area and may have been trafficked into the country to engage in online fraud activities.

This operation follows intelligence gathered on the illegal stay of some foreign nationals in the area, some of whom were trafficked into the country and forced into cyber fraud by their facilitators, said Assistant Commissioner of Immigration M. Amoako-Atta, Head of Public Affairs at GIS, in an official statement.

The arrested individuals are currently undergoing screening and interrogation. Among them is the landlord of the premises where the suspects were found, believed to have knowingly rented out the property for the alleged criminal activities.

This latest crackdown comes just three months after a similar joint operation in April 2025, in which a task force from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Ghana Police Service, and other security bodies arrested 219 foreign nationals, including minors, during a raid at Oyarifa in the Ga East Municipality. That operation exposed a widespread cyber fraud and human trafficking ring operating out of residential areas.

Mr. Amoako-Atta emphasised that investigations into the McCarthy Hills case are still ongoing, and the GIS will continue to collaborate with other agencies to dismantle trafficking and cybercrime syndicates across the country.
