Gas Explosion Hits Lagos Community, Iju Ishaga

A gas cylinder caught fire resulting to a massive explosion around 10:04pm at Agbado Road, Toyin Bus-Stop, Iju Ishaga, Lagos State on Tuesday.

In a loud bang from meters away were scenes of engulfing fire enveloping the atmosphere, sending panic among residents of Iju Ishaga.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has since confirmed the source of the fire as gas explosion which accidentally caught fire.

The post confirming the incident on X partly read, “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently attending to a fire explosion at Agbado Road, Toyin B/S, Iju Ishaga.

The fire which was reported at 22:04hrs Tuesday as a result of a gas tanker that accidentally caught fire and accompanied with explosion has been confined to the tanker and adjoining row of shops it spread to as concerted efforts are ongoing to forestall further spread to protect the environment and  property including the nearby filling station.”

Furthermore, the emergency agency discovered the cause of the fire outbreak is from a defected cap of a cylinder during off-loading of six numbers of 50-75(kg) of gas at a gas shop.

The said incident has resulted to loss of 18 shops and the mini truck engulfed following the fire outbreak.
