Funke Akindele Unveils Trailer For Highly Anticipated Movie “Everybody Loves Jenifa”

38

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has released the trailer for her upcoming movie, Everybody Loves Jenifa, which is set to hit cinemas nationwide on December 13. The film revisits the beloved and chaotic character Jenifa, portrayed by Akindele herself, and promises a blend of nostalgia and humour for fans of the franchise.

Akindele introduced audiences to Jenifa in her 2008 breakout hit of the same name. Over the years, the character became a cultural phenomenon, inspiring sequels like The Return of Jenifa (2011) and the hit TV series Jenifa’s Diary, which solidified its place as a household name. With Everybody Loves Jenifa, the award-winning actress and filmmaker aims to build on the franchise’s legacy while delivering a fresh and entertaining experience.

The movie’s December release aligns with Akindele’s tradition of debuting her films during the festive season, a strategy that has proven successful in past years. Her 2020 hit Omo Ghetto: The Saga and 2022’s Battle on Buka Street were both Christmas-time blockbusters, with last year’s A Tribe Called Judah setting a record as the highest-grossing Nollywood movie of all time. Industry critics believe this timing captures the influx of holiday cinema-goers.

With intense promotion of the upcoming movie for the past few months, the trailer showcases a mix of returning fan-favorite characters, including Falz, Omotunde ‘Lolo’ Adebowale-David, and Olayode Juliana, alongside new faces like Jackie Appiah, Nancy Isime, Patience Ozokwor, Omowunmi Dada, Chimezie Imo, Layi Wasabi, and Bisola Aiyeola. Fans expect a storyline filled with laughter, chaos, and heartfelt moments.

As the December 13 premiere date approaches, audiences eagerly await what Akindele has in store, cementing her reputation as one of Nollywood’s most consistent and innovative filmmakers and named one of the 40 women in international film by The Hollywood Reporter.
