159

The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Godwin Emefiele, has been granted bail by an Abuja High Court sitting at Maitama, on Wednesday 23, November 2023.

However, Emefiele will remain in Kuje Correctional Centre till he meets the bail conditions.

The bail is set at N300 million, and he is required to produce two sureties who must be residents of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and have landed property within the Maitama District.

Recall that Emefiele is standing trial on six counts bordering on procurement fraud to the tune of N1.2bn.

Justice Hamza Muazu delivered the ruling and set November 28 for the commencement of the full-blown hearing on the six-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against Mr. Emefiele.

Earlier, the court had ordered Mr Emefiele to surrender all his travelling documents.
