Despite 4,416 Killed, 4,334 Abducted, Akume Commends Tinubu For Defeating Boko Haram

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has commended President Bola Tinubu for defeating Boko Haram in the high-ended feeling of celebrating his one year in office.

Akume disclosed this on Thursday during a book launch in Abuja to celebrate despite a recent report conducted by Global Rights, in collaboration with a coalition of 84 civil society organisations, which revealed about 4,416 were killed and 4,334 abducted due to insurgency caused by terrorist groups.

No one doubts President Bola Tinubu’s giant strides in the last year. The federal government, under President Tinubu’s leadership, has defeated Boko Haram terrorists, said Akume.

This is after the Defence Headquarters revealed that about 103 Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists surrendered to the Nigerian military in Borno State between May 21 and May 23, 2024.

Akume further commended the president for infrastructural developments achieved during his first year in office.

He added that President Tinubu had built many roads across Nigeria and other critical infrastructures, such as the Abuja Metro Rail, in just one year.

However, in a weekly press briefing released by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba disclosed that the terrorists and their families, comprising 13 male adults, 29 female adults, and 61 children, surrendered to troops in Mafa, Bama, Gwoza, and Monguno Local Government Areas of Borno State.
