In my head at that time I never think I would be in the forefront, be an artist. One day one of my cousins decided to release one my songs as me and when I move back to Nigeria I just took it on full time

In a behind-the-scenes video titled “Davido Welcomes All to His World of Music Honda Stage x Billboard,” shared by Billboard, Davido delved into his musical journey and the global recognition of Afrobeats. He attributed his initial fascination with music to the parties his mother hosted during his childhood.

Reflecting on his career trajectory, Davido revealed that he began as a producer before transitioning into singing. Despite not envisioning himself as an artist initially, his debut single propelled him into stardom.

Expressing his affinity for collaborations, Davido emphasized his enjoyment of incorporating other artists into his creative realm. He recalled his first single, “Back When,” featuring Naeto C, which he both produced and performed on.

Davido also teased his upcoming single, “Flex My Soul,” during the interview, hinting at a female guest appearance and a performance on the Billboard Honda Stage. This track was previously previewed in 2023 before the release of his fourth album, “Timeless.”

Addressing the global ascent of Afrobeats, Davido highlighted the genre’s intrinsic vibe and musical richness, noting that while access to it has increased, its essence has always been present.
