During a press conference held on Friday, May 22, 2026, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Mali, His Excellency Mr. Li Xiang, reaffirmed China’s commitment and solidarity with Mali following the terrorist attacks of April 25.

Responding to a question, the diplomat stated that China and Mali are, in his words, “good brothers and good partners, bound by sincerity and solidarity through all trials.”

He recalled that after the terrorist attacks, Chinese nationals and Chinese companies based in Mali never withdrew from the country. According to him, these actors remained, as he put it, “firmly alongside their Malian friends to accompany them and help them overcome this crisis.”

The ambassador also emphasized a widely shared cultural belief that “true friends are known in difficult times.” In this context, he argued that the continued presence of the Chinese community and Chinese companies in Mali concretely illustrates China’s support for the Malian people.

Finally, he insisted that this cooperation and solidarity demonstrate the strength of relations between the two countries and their common will to face current challenges. He described the partnership as one of solidarity, cooperation, and strategic commitment in the service of stability and development.
