Burkina Faso’s August 4 Stadium Reopens After Major Renovation and CAF Reaccreditation

After four years of absence from the international football scene, Burkina Faso is set to welcome the game back home. The iconic Stade du 4 Août in Ouagadougou will officially reopen its doors on August 4, 2025, following a series of major upgrades that have now earned it the official green light from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The CAF approval, effective as of July 1, 2025, follows a comprehensive inspection that confirmed the stadium now complies with international standards for technical, safety, and sporting infrastructure. This marks a turnaround for a venue that was stripped of its accreditation in 2021 due to deteriorating conditions.

Among the standout improvements are Wi-Fi availability for fans and media, the installation of over 150 surveillance cameras, and the addition of dedicated spaces for persons with reduced mobility.

The renovations also covered the playing surface, media areas, and spectator facilities, all part of an ambitious refurbishment project ordered last year by the Burkinabè government under Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

The Ministry of Sports, which announced the CAF approval earlier this month, hailed the achievement as a “symbolic and practical victory” for Burkinabè football.”

Burkina Faso’s national team is expected to host Egypt at the revamped stadium on September 8, 2025, in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier,  the first competitive match on home soil in over four years.
