Burkina Faso’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, has completed an official visit to Equatorial Guinea where he met with his counterpart, Simeón Oyono Esono Angue, to assess the state of bilateral relations and chart a path for deeper cooperation.
The two ministers described the current state of ties between their nations as dynamic and promising, noting the convergence of their visions on key regional and continental issues. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the level of engagement and agreed that the relationship holds significant potential for growth.
Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré explained that the visit to Malabo was primarily aimed at strengthening relations with Equatorial Guinea. To that end, the ministers decided to convene a session of the Joint Cooperation Commission between the two countries as soon as possible. The commission will serve as a platform to review existing agreements and identify new areas of collaboration.
The discussions also touched on the situation of the Burkinabè community living in Equatorial Guinea, who are active in several economic sectors. The minister reassured local authorities about the professional ethics and integrity of his compatriots while advocating for appropriate living and working conditions for them.
The visit reflects a broader effort by Burkina Faso under its transitional leadership to deepen diplomatic and economic ties with strategic partners across the continent. Equatorial Guinea, a major oil producer with growing regional influence, represents an important partner for Burkina Faso as both nations seek to strengthen their positions within the African diplomatic landscape.
As the Joint Cooperation Commission prepares to meet, expectations are high that the renewed engagement will translate into tangible outcomes for both countries and for the Burkinabè nationals contributing to Equatorial Guinea’s economy.
