In a move to address the pressing issues of hunger and insecurity in Anambra State, members of the Labour Party in the State House of Assembly have pledged to forgo their salaries for the next six months.

This decision came after an emergency caucus meeting convened in response to the impassioned call from the former Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi, regarding the dire state of the nation.

The Labour Party caucus, comprising prominent figures including Hon. Nkechi Ogbuefi, Comrade Nigeria Henry Mbachu, Hon. Jude Ifeanyi Umennajiego, Hon. Fred Ezenwa, Hon. Kingsley Udemezue, Hon. Justice Azuka, Hon. Paul Obu, and Hon. Patrick Okafor, issued a communiqué outlining their recommendations to both the Federal and State governments.

Their first recommendation urges His Excellency Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritize the declaration of a state of emergency on security and hunger, suspending work on all sectors, including infrastructure, for the next six months.

Also, all State governors, including Anambra Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, are implored to follow suit by halting infrastructural development to focus on tackling the pressing issues of security and hunger.

The Labour Party House of Assembly members expressed their solidarity with the plight of the masses, recognizing the urgent need for action in the face of escalating challenges. By voluntarily relinquishing their salaries for six months, they aim to contribute to alleviating the suffering of the people.

‘’We, the Labour Party House of Assembly members will relinquish our basic salary for six months to be our contribution to alleviate the suffering of the masses,’’ the statement noted

In their concluding remarks, the caucus emphasized the importance of unity and hope, urging Nigerians to sustain hope as the currency for a better tomorrow. They commend the leadership of Mr. Peter Obi for his selfless efforts towards the stability and growth of the nation.
