The Alliance of Sahel States (AES) countries eliminated more than 4,200 terrorists between 2023 and 2025, according to the AES press office.

In a statement released this week, the regional bloc, which includes Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, said the deaths occurred as part of a coordinated military campaign launched after the alliance was formed in 2023. The bloc credited its success to increased regional cooperation, independence from former Western partners, and a more aggressive, homegrown security strategy.

The figures show that over 1,000 terrorists were killed in Burkina Faso, between 1,500 and 2,000 in Mali, and nearly 1,200 in Niger. Officials highlighted major operations in each country, including a February 2024 raid in Burkina Faso that reportedly killed 200 militants in a single strike.

The AES is winning the war that others failed to wage, the statement read.

The AES was formed following military coups in all three member states, after which their presidents cut ties with France, ended cooperation with the French-led G5 Sahel force, and expelled foreign troops.

Since then, they have positioned themselves as defenders of Sahelian sovereignty and self-determination, with security at the core of their alliance.
