The National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Dayo Israel, triggered nationwide outrage after he proudly posted a video of himself distributing seven brand new 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUVs to selected party youth leaders. The sheer audacity of the display, happening while Nigerians are being told to endure historic economic hardship, has left many asking what exactly is happening to their country.
Israel posted the video on his X account on Sunday, boasting that the vehicles were to aid their election mobilisation activities for the 2027 general elections. He even thanked First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for her continuous support to the party structure. The post was deleted about three hours later, but not before Nigerians saw it and erupted in anger.
The outrage is not just about the hospital Israel chairs that is missing an MRI machine, though that makes it worse. The real anger is about the open, shameless looting. This is a youth leader. Not a governor. Not a minister. A youth leader in a country where millions of young people cannot find jobs and are struggling to eat.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress calculated the cost of the seven vehicles at about N1.015 billion. An average brand new 2026 Toyota Prado costs around N145 million. In the video, there are seven of them. That is over one billion naira handed out in a single day to party loyalists for election mobilisation.
Nigerians are asking a simple question: where did a youth leader get one billion naira to buy seven luxury SUVs? The APC has looted enough. They have taken everything. And now they are not even hiding it. They are doing it in broad daylight, posting the evidence on social media, and daring Nigerians to do something about it.
While President Tinubu tells Nigerians to endure painful economic reforms, while doctors and nurses are owed salaries, while the country is borrowing billions to fund a budget it cannot pay for, the APC youth leader is handing out SUVs like candy. And he is not just any youth leader. He is the Chairman of the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta, a hospital that critics say has no MRI machine. The seven SUVs could have bought three MRI machines. But they bought Prados instead.
Professor Pat Utomi, a chieftain of the NDC, did not hold back. He compared the SUVs to the peanuts Nigerian soldiers are paid as salaries and questioned how many world-class ambulances the money could have bought. Other Nigerians asked how many primary healthcare centres could be built with one billion naira.
The APC knows exactly what it is doing. They are not afraid. They deleted the video when the backlash started, but the damage is already done. They are showing Nigerians that the looting is not a rumour. It is a policy. The ruling party has turned public funds into personal wealth, and they are doing it openly because they know that in 2027, the same people they are robbing will queue up to vote for them again.
This is what a youth leader in Nigeria is doing. Imagine what the governors and ministers are doing. The country is bleeding, and the people bleeding it dry are throwing parties on the ruins. That is what is happening in Nigeria right now.
