Veteran actress, producer, and now director Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi has reached a career milestone with Oversabi Aunty, the comedy she wrote, produced, and directed. Released in December 2025, the film has officially crossed the ₦1 billion mark at the box office, making it one of the most financially successful Nigerian films ever.

According to figures shared by FilmOne Entertainment, the movie’s official distributor, Oversabi Aunty grossed ₦1,017,201,953 in ticket sales across cinemas in West Africa — a total that places it as the fourth highest‑grossing Nollywood film of all time. Crucially, it has also become the first Nollywood directorial debut to surpass ₦1 billion, a first for the industry and a defining achievement for Abraham.

Toyin Abraham took to social media and expressed her gratitude to fans, colleagues, and supporters who made the success possible. In heartfelt posts, she thanked God, “Toyintitans” (her fan community), Nigerians everywhere, her cast and crew, and FilmOne for backing the movie’s journey from script to screens, where it’s still showing across cinemas.

Oversabi Aunty tells the story of an overzealous church usher whose well‑meaning but intrusive efforts to “fix” people’s lives lead to chaotic and comedic situations. Its mix of humour, relatable family dynamics, and cultural resonance helped it connect strongly with Nigerian audiences and beyond.

The film is still playing in theatres nationwide. It has already begun screenings in select cinemas in the United Kingdom, with plans for wider international releases, including in the United States and Canada.

Industry observers say the success of Oversabi Aunty reflects more than just one film’s earnings — it underscores the growing strength of Nollywood’s commercial market and audience appetite for locally made stories with universal appeal.

With this milestone, Toyin Abraham not only cements her status as one of Nigeria’s most influential filmmakers but also helps push Nollywood toward bigger box office milestones and greater global reach in 2026 and beyond.
