Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has approved sentence reductions for 963 prisoners, including the release of 372 detainees, the government announced following a Council of Ministers meeting.
According to the statement, the measures include reduced prison terms of up to 12 months for eligible inmates, as well as the commutation of at least one life sentence. Authorities said the full list of beneficiaries will be published in the country’s Official Gazette.

The decision forms part of a broader exercise of presidential clemency and comes amid ongoing efforts by the military-led government to manage overcrowding in detention facilities and promote social reintegration.
