Senegal secured the first semi final place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Mali 1–0 in a tightly contested quarter final match.
The defending champions took the lead in the first half after capitalising on a defensive lapse, a moment that proved decisive in a game defined by discipline and tactical caution. Senegal controlled large stretches of the match and limited Mali’s attacking opportunities.

Mali’s task became harder when they were reduced to ten men before halftime, forcing them to defend deeper and rely on counter attacks. Despite their efforts, they were unable to break down Senegal’s organised back line.
The win keeps Senegal firmly on course for another deep tournament run and strengthens their status as one of the favourites for the title.
