Mali Launches $300m Road Maintenance Programme to Boost National Connectivity

919

The government of Mali has unveiled a Road Maintenance Programme (PER) for 2025. It has allocated over 182 billion CFA francs(approximately $300 million) to preserve and upgrade more than 20,000 kilometres of roadways across the country.

This large-scale initiative shows Mali’s strategic focus on infrastructure as a key driver of economic growth, national unity, and sovereignty.

According to officials, the PER 2025 goes beyond routine maintenance; it is a comprehensive effort to strengthen regional connectivity, support agricultural production, and facilitate the movement of goods and people throughout the country.

The programme will include: Routine maintenance to prevent road deterioration, rehabilitation of severely damaged road segments, infrastructure resilience work to combat the effects of climate change, including flood protection.

The government emphasised that this initiative covers every region of Mali, ensuring that no community is left behind. In addition to preserving critical infrastructure, the programme is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for Malian youth, particularly in the construction and public works sectors.

Reliable road access is deemed vital for the deployment of defence and security forces, the distribution of humanitarian aid, and the reinforcement of state presence across Mali.
