Gbenga Kayode, best known for his work as the director of Big Brother Naija, is taking a giant step into Nigeria’s movie scene with his first-ever feature film, Bendel Girl, set to hit cinemas nationwide on July 18.

The film, marking Kayode’s transition from unscripted television to fictional storytelling, promises a gripping and emotional ride. He wears multiple hats as both the writer and director of the movie, teaming up with co-producer Bukola Oloyede to bring the story to life.

Bendel Girl features a star-studded cast including Toke Tinde, reality stars Saskay Jonah and Tolani Baj, veteran actor Jibola Dabo, as well as Tope Tedela, Timi Agbaje, and Amanda Iriekpen. With this ensemble and Kayode’s reputation for delivering tension-filled content, the project is set to spark conversations.

In an Instagram post, Kayode offered a haunting teaser of the story: “When a girl from the past crashes into the present, one man’s obsession with her mystery could heal or destroy the people he loves most.” This line hints at the emotional depth and intrigue the film may explore, combining romance, mystery, and psychological suspense.

Kayode’s transition from reality TV to cinema marks a new creative chapter in his career and a broader trend in the Nigerian entertainment industry, where genre boundaries are constantly being pushed.
