Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have sealed a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Kenya’s Rising Stars on Wednesday in Cairo.

The Group B clash was significant for the Flying Eagles, marking their 100th match in the competition’s history. The seven-time champions were forced to dig deep, coming from behind twice to avoid a shock defeat to a spirited Kenyan side.

It will be recalled that Nigeria began the tournament with a good start, securing a win and a draw in their opening two matches. Today’s result brought their group-stage tally to five points, enough to finish second behind Morocco, who topped the group with seven points following a 3-1 victory over Tunisia in the group’s other final fixture.

The match against Kenya showed the resilience of the Flying Eagles. Despite falling behind twice, they responded with determination and quality, ensuring their journey in the tournament.

With their place in the knockout round confirmed, the Flying Eagles now turn their attention to Ismailia, where they will face the second-placed team from Group C in the quarterfinals on Monday. Group C features a challenging lineup, including defending champions Senegal, rivals Ghana, the Central African Republic, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
