U-20 AFCON: Flying Eagles’ Draw With Morocco Sets Up Must-Win Match Against Kenya

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles were held to a 0-0 draw by Morocco in their second Group B match at the 2025 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday, leaving their qualification hopes in doubt.

Despite dominating possession at the 30 June Air Defence Stadium in Cairo, the Nigerian side struggled to break down the Moroccan defense, with Divine Oliseh’s first-half strike standing out as their only real chance of the game.

The result leaves Nigeria second in Group B with four points level with leaders Morocco, who retain top spot on superior goal difference.

With Tunisia’s 3-1 win over Kenya earlier in the day, the North Africans moved within a point of Nigeria, setting up a tense final matchday in the group.

The Flying Eagles now face a must-win encounter against a desperate Kenyan side, who sit bottom of the group with no points but still have slim hopes of qualification.

A victory against Kenya on Wednesday would guarantee Nigeria a spot in the quarter-finals. However, anything less could leave their fate dependent on other results, with the possibility of missing out even on a best third-place finish under CAF’s tournament structure.

The top two teams in each of the three groups, along with the two best third-placed teams, progress to the last eight, meaning a draw or loss could prove costly for Nigeria if Tunisia manage to upset Morocco in the group’s other final fixture.
