A documentary about Nigerian music star Wizkid, titled “Wizkid: Long Live Lagos,” will debut at the 2025 Tribeca Festival in New York City this June.

The film will premiere in the festival’s Spotlight+ section, which is known for combining screenings with live conversations or performances. After the showing, fans will hear directly from Wizkid and the film’s director, Karam Gill, during a special live chat.

Directed by Karam Gill and produced by him alongside Daniel Malikyar, the documentary traces Wizkid’s incredible journey from the streets of Lagos to becoming one of the world’s most influential Afrobeat artists. It highlights his music, personal moments, and his impact on global culture.

The film features some of the closest people in Wizkid’s life and career, including his manager and partner Jada Pollock, Afrobeat icon Femi Kuti, and media and fashion insiders who have walked the journey with him. Together, they help tell the story of a boy from Surulere who became a global voice for African music.

Long Live Lagos is part of a lineup of music documentaries at Tribeca this year, joining stories about international acts like Miley Cyrus, Metallica, and Depeche Mode. It also marks another major step for director Karam Gill, who has previously created documentaries on Lil Baby.

HBO Documentary Films are releasing the documentary, adding even more weight to Wizkid’s legacy as a pioneer of the global Afrobeat movement. The Tribeca Film Festival will run from the 4th to the 15th of June 2025.
