The government of Burkina Faso has announced a budget allocation of 31 billion FCFA (approximately $48.6 million) to settle outstanding social debts owed to teachers under the Ministry of Basic Education.

From 2023 to 2025, this debt is scheduled to be cleared throughout 2025. The country will be divided into four zones to implement this repayment plan, as specified by Minister Sosthène.

Recall that Burkina Faso’s newly appointed Prime Minister, Rimtalba Emmanuel Ouédraogo, unveiled a 24-member cabinet which includes key figures such as Brigadier General Célestin Simporé as Minister of Defense, Aboubakar Nacanabo as Minister of Economy and Finance, and Pingwendé Gilbert Ouédraogo as Minister of Communication and government spokesperson.

Women were also appointed to prominent positions, such as Aminata Zerbo/Sabane, who headed the Ministry of Digital Transition, and Fatoumata Bako/Traoré, who oversaw the budget.
