Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni and commander of the nation’s army, has threatened to decapitate opposition leader Bobi Wine.

In a post on X, Kainerugaba referred to his father as “Mzee” and claimed that Museveni’s influence was the only reason Wine was safe.

If Mzee were not here, I would cut off his head today”, Kainerugaba posted.

The threat prompted a swift backlash, with Wine, a prominent opposition figure and former presidential candidate, expressing his concerns.

The threat from Museveni’s son (who also commands Uganda’s army) to decapitate me is not something I take lightly, especially given how many people have been killed by him and his father”, he posted.

The Ugandan government spokesperson stated that Kainerugaba’s remarks on social media should be interpreted as “informal” and do not reflect the official government stance.

This is not the first time Kainerugaba has made incendiary statements. In 2022, he threatened to invade Kenya. However, Kainerugaba later apologised for that threat; he said some posts were meant ironically.

Wine also added that the opposition should pay him what they owe before he proceeds with their decapitation.

According to a Reuters report, many believe Kainerugaba is the heir apparent to his father, who has been in power in Uganda since 1986.
