Lagos Govt Shuts RCCG, Celestial Church, Hotels Over Noise Pollution

The Lagos State Government has shut down several establishments, including a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), a Celestial Church, multiple hotels, and event centres, as part of an aggressive crackdown on noise pollution and other environmental violations.

As announced by the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, on Wednesday through a post on X,  the closures were conducted by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) in response to complaints from residents and are part of the state’s continued efforts to ensure compliance with the Lagos State Environmental Laws of 2017, which prioritise public health and environmental standards.

The enforcement exercise, which took place on Tuesday, targeted establishments across various parts of Lagos, including Ogudu, Gbagada, Iyana Ejigbo, Isolo, Ajao Estate, Oshodi, Ilasamaja, and Okota.

According to Wahab, the affected venues include Honourable Lounge & Lodging, RCCG, Celestial Church of God, OMA Night Club and Lounge, Bridge Spot Bar, Okiki Event Centre and Hall, Emota Paradise Hotel (Phase 2), CF Hotel & Suites, House 27 Hotel & Suites, Echo Spring Hotel, and Smile T Continental Hotel.

In a bid to tackle noise pollution and other environmental offences, LASEPA took action yesterday, closing several establishments across different parts of the state, Wahab posted.

He emphasised that the operation was led by Deputy Director of Enforcement Babatunde Gbenga and forms part of the government’s strategy to address rising noise pollution concerns across Lagos neighbourhoods.

Recall that similar measures were taken by LASEPA three months ago when the state government shut down Landcraft Industries Nigeria and the Word of Light Christ Ministry (Camp of Light) in Ikorodu for persistent noise and environmental pollution issues.

At the time, Wahab noted that the closures were necessary to protect the community from adverse health impacts of environmental infractions.
