Border Routes Are Unmanned

A retired Assistant Comptroller-General of Immigration, Sunday Fagbamigbe, has revealed that over 320 border routes in Nigeria are unmanned and serve as illegal passage for criminals.

Fagbamigbe revealed in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday. He added that the porosity of Nigeria’s borders is responsible for the proliferation of arms, drug and human trafficking and worsening insecurity.

Fagbamigbe called on the Federal Government to strengthen border security by investing in advanced technologists like electronic sensors, night vision scopes, drones, and artificial intelligence.

He said these technologies would help security agents improve surveillance and more effectively detect illegal entries.

He also encouraged security agents to collaborate with border communities to raise awareness and enhance the management of border routes.
