Netflix Renews ‘Anikulapo’ For Season 2, Set To Delve Into The Slave Trade

Netflix has officially renewed Kunle Afolayan’s acclaimed series Aníkúlápó: The Rise of the Spectrefor a second season. Following the success of the first season, which dominated Netflix’s Global Top 10 list in 2022, the new season promises to delve deeper into Nigerian history by exploring the slave trade.

Filming for season two is currently underway in Ibadan, Nigeria, and Ghana. Returning to their lead roles are Sola Sobowale, Bimbo Ademoye, and Lateef Adedimeji, joined by new cast members Antar Laniyan, Joke Muyiwa, Adebowale Adebayo, and Saidi Balogun. The season will also feature an international cast with actors from Portugal, Ghana, and Nigeria.

Kunle Afolayan expressed his excitement over the renewal, emphasising the importance of showcasing Nigerian culture and heritage.
