Ondo Security Operatives Arrest Family of 7 Who Broke into Orphanage to Steal Rice

Operatives of the Western Nigeria Security Network, known as Amotekun, have arrested a family of seven for stealing bags of rice from an orphanage in Shagari Village, Akure, Ondo State.

The suspects, John Avor, his wife Mary, and their five children were accused of breaking into the orphanage to steal food supplies. According to Amotekun Commander Adetunji Adeleye, the family also targeted a nearby pensioner’s store and looted it of rice. The theft involved three of their children, all minors.

During interrogation, John Avor, a gateman, blamed his actions on the devil. He further claimed that some of the orphanage’s children assisted him in stealing the rice with the promise that he would sell it and use the proceeds to buy items for them.

In addition to this case, Amotekun said it thwarted five kidnapping attempts in the same week and rescued nine victims. Usman Abubakar, one of the suspects, was arrested in Owo after collecting a ransom of N2 million. His accomplices are still at large. Commander Adeleye further warned residents to refrain from purchasing second-hand goods without verifying their origin.
