Mali’s transitional president, Colonel Assimi Goïta, has vowed to fight to eliminate terrorism in the country fiercely. After a military parade celebrating Mali’s 64th Independence Day, Goïta pledged to continue fighting for peace and security.

We will hunt down these armed groups day and night until our country is completely free of this threat, he told reporters.

Goïta commended the Malians for supporting the armed forces despite challenges and called for unity around the Defense and Security Forces. He stressed that the fight against terrorism “cannot be won without the constant support of the people and partners.”

He also addressed recent terrorist attacks on a Gendarmerie School and a military base, describing them as attempts to weaken the troops’ morale. Goïta assured that Mali, along with its partners in the Confederation of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), will use all necessary means to combat terrorism in the region.
