After WAW’s Story, NEITI Renews Official Website’s Security Certificate

The Nigeria Extractive Industries and Transparency Initiative (NEITI) has renewed its official website’s Secure Socket Layer (SSL) certificate.
This was renewed weeks after West Africa Weekly reported the vulnerabilities attached to having an unsecured website, including as it violated Section 7.2 of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) guidelines, which mandate that every government-owned website must have a secured website for its users.
Following the report, West Africa Weekly checked the website (neiti.gov.ng) several times and confirmed on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, that NEITI had renewed the SSL certificate which will expire in the next 309 days.
NEITI is a Nigerian Federal Government Agency established by the NEITI Act, 2007, to ensure transparency and accountability in the country’s extractive (oil, gas and solid mineral resources) industry and supervised by the Office of the President of Nigeria through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. NEITI also reports to the President and the National Assembly.
