The family of Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance executive detained in Nigeria, has raised concerns about his prolonged detention, which has now lasted 200 days. Gambaryan, a U.S. citizen and head of financial crimes compliance at Binance, was arrested in February on charges of laundering over $35 million and engaging in unlicensed financial activities.
His wife, Yuki Gambaryan, issued a public plea for his release on Friday: “Two hundred days ago, my husband, an innocent American citizen, travelled to Nigeria for a meeting he was invited to by the Nigerian government. Since then, he has been unlawfully detained under increasingly inhumane and degrading conditions.
“I beg President Tinubu to do the right thing and order Tigran’s immediate and unconditional release”, she added.
She also called on the U.S. government to take urgent action, as the situation was disgraceful. Despite multiple attempts for bail on medical grounds, Gambaryan remains in Kuje Prison. He is reportedly suffering from a herniated disc and has been denied adequate medical care, including a wheelchair. His case has been adjourned until October 9.
