Chief Magistrate Court of Federal Capital Territory in the Wuse Magisterial District has summoned Monday Okpebholo, the APC candidate for the 2024 Edo governorship election, over allegations of age falsification. He faces charges of forgery and perjury.

The case was brought by a PDP member, Honesty Aginbatse, on September 12, claiming discrepancies in the birth dates on forms Okpebholo submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Okpebholo is expected to appear before Magistrate Abubakar Mukhtar on September 20.

According to NAN, Aginbatse alleged that Okpebholo’s Senate nomination form from 2023 lists his birthdate as March 29, 1970, while his 2024 governorship forms show August 29, 1970. He added that his WAEC certificate has August 29, 1972, and his INEC voter card lists August 1, 1977.

Under section 182.1(d) of the Nigerian Constitution, a conviction for fraud or dishonesty could disqualify Okpebholo from running for governor, thus raising questions about his eligibility if convicted.
