Kidnappers who took three residents of Emure Ekiti over the weekend have contacted the victims’ families, demanding a N30 million ransom for their release.

The three victims were taken on Saturday evening near Oyimo River, along the Emure-Eporo road in Emure Local Government Area. The driver of the Toyota Camry, who was also the husband of one of the captives, was shot dead at the scene.

A source from the community, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that the kidnappers called the victims’ families on Monday morning to demand the ransom.

The Chairman of Emure Local Government, Tosin Adedayo, confirmed that a joint security team has been pursuing the kidnappers since the incident was reported.

I am aware of the kidnapping and have been actively involved in the rescue mission to free our people—soldiers, policemen, and others who went after the kidnappers have not returned since yesterday. We are confident that our people will be freed, Vanguard quoted Adedayo.

The abduction occurred at the exact location where students from Apostolic Faith Children School were kidnapped in January.

Kidnapping has become the order of the day in Nigeria. While the menace keeps rising, the Nigerian Police have grossly failed to double down on the perpetrators despite their displayed efficiency when it comes to tracking and arresting protesters, journalists and whistleblowers.
