The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has taken no visible action to rescue the Borno State High Court Judge, Justice Haruna Mshelia, his wife, driver, and a police security guard who were abducted on Monday, June 24, 2024, by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Gujba village, Yobe State.

Mshelia was travelling with his wife from Biu to Maiduguri when they were ambushed by heavily armed men who intercepted the vehicle between Buratai town in Borno state and Buni-gari in Yobe state. The gunmen forced the judge, his wife, the driver, and the police escort out of the vehicle and reportedly escorted them into a bush leading to Sambisa Forest.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Kenneth Nahum Daso, confirmed the incident, stating that a joint security investigation team had been established to track and rescue the abductees.

However, more than two months have passed without any updates from the police, leaving the abductees still in the hands of their captors. The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) has also failed to address the situation.

Despite their ability to swiftly and aggressively crack down on innocent protesters, journalists and whistleblowers, their apparent inaction in rescuing kidnapping victims suggests a lack of prioritisation and effectiveness when it comes to addressing more severe security threats.
