Napoli Exclude Victor Osimhen from Serie A Squad List Despite Stalled Transfer Deal

629

Napoli has officially excluded Nigerian star striker Victor Osimhen from their Serie A squad list for the season.

The club has also stripped Osimhen of his number 9 jersey, handing it to Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku, who has joined the club with immediate effect.

The decision signals a significant fallout between Osimhen and Napoli, as the relationship between the player and the club has reportedly deteriorated.

Napoli has also excluded Portuguese defender Mario Rui from the squad, considering both players “out of the project” moving forward.

The exclusion of Osimhen comes after a tumultuous period of speculation regarding his future. The Nigerian forward, who played a pivotal role in Napoli’s title-winning campaign seasons ago, has been linked with moves away from the club.

Chelsea and Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal attempted to sign him during the summer transfer window, but Osimhen has remained firm on leaving Napoli on his terms.

Lukaku’s arrival at Napoli and his immediate assignment of the number 9 jersey further cements the club’s intent to move forward without Osimhen.

Lukaku, who joins from Chelsea after uncertainty regarding his future, is expected to fill the void left by the Nigerian international.

The situation between Osimhen and Napoli appears to have reached a point of no return, with both parties seemingly eager to part ways.

It remains to be seen if Osimhen will secure a move away from the Italian champions or will be forced to stay at the club under strained circumstances.
