The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has seized three petrol tanker trucks in the Apapa area of Lagos State, suspected of transporting crude edible vegetable oil.

The oil, reportedly trans-loaded from an edible oil depot, was being transported in tankers previously used for petrol, raising serious concerns about potential chemical contamination.

NAFDAC officials followed the seized tankers to a processing facility in Sango-Ota, and the crude soy oil was handed over to the Southwest Zonal Office of NAFDAC for further regulatory action.

NAFDAC’s Director-General has announced the formation of a committee to develop stringent guidelines and a code of ethics for the marketing and distribution of edible vegetable oils in Nigeria.

NAFDAC urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or unwholesome practices related to food and other regulated products.

Recall days earlier, the agency uncovered an illegal alcohol production facility in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State, seizing goods worth an estimated N200 million.
