Kano Anti-Corruption Commission To Probe Multi-Billion Naira Drug Contract Scam Involving All 44 LGAs

The Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has approved the appointment of three second-class Emirs over the newly created emirates in Rano, Gaya, and Karaye.

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has launched an investigation into an alleged multi-billion naira drug purchase contract scam involving all 44 local government areas in the state.

The commission’s chairman, Muhuyi Rimin-Gado, announced this on Tuesday. He stated that the investigation would be thorough, and anyone found guilty would be prosecuted.

This development follows accusations of the diversion of palliatives by Shehu Sagagi, Chief of Staff to Governor Abba Yusuf. Rimin-Gado urged the public to provide any information that could assist in the investigation.

Governor Yusuf had earlier denied knowledge of the controversial drug supply contract. In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, and the Governor’s Director General of Media and Publicity, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, the governor called for an immediate investigation and demanded a report.

In response, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to freeze the accounts of the 44 local governments. APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas called for a full investigation into the scandal and accused the state government of plundering public funds through joint projects.
