Nigeria's Ese Brume, Ruth Usoro, and Prestina Ochonogor have all qualified for a place in the final of the women's long jump at the Summer Olympics in Paris.

Nigeria’s Ese Brume, Ruth Usoro, and Prestina Ochonogor have all qualified for a place in the final of the women’s long jump at the Olympics in Paris.

This marks the first time in the Olympics since the country first appeared in 1952 that three Nigerian athletes would advance to the final round of any Olympic event.

Brume led the charge with a qualification mark of 6.78 meters. Ruth Usoro was not so far behind, at 6.68 meters, while Prestina Ochonogor ended the trio with a qualification-mark jump of 6.65 meters.

Of the 31 competitors, only the best 12 performers or those who bettered the qualification standard of 6.75 meters advanced—an achievement the Nigerian trio thus shared.

This will be the first time Ruth Usoro and Prestina Ochonogor have made it into an Olympic final. The Finals are scheduled for Thursday, 8 August, at 7 pm Nigerian time.
