Protesters Demand Fuel Subsidy Reversal Amidst 24-Hour Curfew in Kano

Despite 24-hour curfew imposed by the Kano State government, residents in the Minjibir Local Government Area took to the streets to protest against the increasing hardship in the country.

The demonstrators were seen carrying placards with various inscriptions, conducted a peaceful protest around the local government headquarters, calling for the reversal of the recent fuel subsidy removal among other demands.

A resident of the area, Tasiu Minjibir, who spoke to Vanguard via telephone, confirmed that the protesters maintained a peaceful stance during the demonstration.

He emphasised that their primary demand was the reinstatement of the fuel subsidy, which they believe is crucial to alleviating the financial burden on the populace.

The curfew was declared on Thursday evening by Governor Abba Yusuf following reports that hoodlums hijacked the protest wielding weapons, prompting the government to take measures to ensure public safety.

Yusuf, in a video trending on social media stated that thugs orchestrated the violence and destruction from the #EndBadGovernance peaceful protest.
