Protesters marching through the streets of Gombe on Thursday protesting hunger, hardship and bad governance witnessed under the President Bola Tinubu’s administration were heard calling for the military to take over leadership and rule the country.

In a video posted by Premium Times and seen by West Africa Weekly, the agitated protesters, some of whom were holding tree branches and others placards, were heard defiantly chanting, “Sojoji muke so”, which means “We want soldiers”.

They were also heard chanting “Soja Oyoyo, Soja oyoyo (soldier welcome)” at the protest ground.

The protesters who took to the streets as early as 9:am, brought traffic in major locations of the metropolis to a standstill, causing commuters to find alternative routes.

One of the protesters who spoke to Daily Trust said, “The government has left us struggling to feed our families and look for ways to survive, with the cost of living continuously on the rise and the leaders are doing nothing to address it. We cannot continue like this, bad governance has plagued the country for far too long.

“We need a change, this system of government is not favouring us, everything about the government is anti-masses. After several years of independence, we still lack basic services and amenities to live a quality life.”

According to reports, some of the protesters pelted stones at the Gombe State Government House as they relayed their grievances.
