Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has accused Simon Ekpa, a Finland-based Biafra agitator, of being the mastermind of terror and violence in the South-East of Nigeria.
He noted that Ekpa was at the centre of many deadly attacks and enforcement of illegal sit-at-home orders in the region, referring to himself as Prime Minister of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
Mbah called Ekpa a “scammer” milking from the sufferings of the Igbo during the visit of the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence.
“This is quite surprising, how the government of Finland will allow this man to be comfortable in their country to commit terrorism in Nigeria,” Mbah said.
He pressed the committee to act on Ekpa, insisting that his repatriation and prosecution were necessary.
“A lot of people have died through his statements and actions, and he continues that way. This is a tragedy we must all work on as a country to end. He does not represent the Igbo interest.”
The governor noted the efforts of his administration to rid Enugu State of the unlawful sit-at-home orders and put residents at ease over their safety.
After that, he implored the South-East youth to shun Ekpa’s influence and vowed that his government would not give in to threats from the agitators.
“As you may also have noticed recently, they have continued to make attempts, particularly that megalomaniac, Ekpa, who ironically resides with his family peacefully in Finland, a country where the rule of law reigns but he encourages anarchy here and goads some of our youths to their self-destruction,” Mbah noted.
He accused Ekpa of using the guise of fighting for Igbo interests to create business for himself. “This is also business to him, masquerading as if he’s fighting for Igbo’s interest, whereas he doesn’t know anything about Igbo or have their interest at heart”, he added.
