Niger’s army announced on Wednesday that seven civilians were killed in a raid by terrorists in the Tillabéry region, west of the country.
“Terrorists on motorbikes attacked the village of Dosso Kouregou… killing seven civilians and stole cattle,” the army said in a statement.
The exact date of the attack was not specified.
The army added that “operations are ongoing” to hunt down and neutralise the perpetrators.”
Earlier this week, before the attack, Niger Defense and Security Forces had killed 13 terrorists and arrested 29 others during patrols around Goundey village in Tillabéry region, the army said.
Tillabery region is close to the borders of Mali and Burkina Faso and is known for being a haven for jihadist groups linked to the Islamic State and Al-Qaeda.
