Burkina Faso Creates Presidency Anti-Corruption Unit

Burkina Faso’s Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has created an anti-corruption unit and instituted a code of ethics and professional conduct for his cabinet to promote good governance and “effectively combat corruption.”

While handing over a copy of the code of conduct, the Chief of Staff to the President, Martha Céleste Anderson Dekomwin Medah, said that its implementation aligns with the values defended by the Transition charter.

The values include justice, equality, the fight against corruption, promoting good governance, and meritocracy.

This is what has prevailed so that within the Presidency of Faso, we can put in place tools in order to better guide us towards this ideal,” he stated.

With the creation of the unit and its guide, the main objective sought is to initiate a formal dynamic to encourage all staff to promote good actions in the line of duty and to “effectively fight against corruption”, the Chief of Staff indicated.

However, media reports showed that the Presidency is expected to create a committee responsible for maintaining compliance under the human resource department.

According to Faso7when a breach occurs, the committee will refer to legal provisions such as the code of criminal procedure and the specific statutes governing institutions, according to the chief of staff.
