Residents of Rano town in Kano State have raised concerns over the presence of armed hoodlums at the headquarters of the Rano Emirate since Sunday.

In a letter to the state Police Commissioner, the residents expressed deep concern over communal safety after the unsolicited arrival of the armed youths, PUNCH reported.

The letter said the hoodlums were camped at both the Main Palace and the historic Tsohon Gari Palace of the Emir, for unknown reasons.

“In the evening of Sunday, July 7, 2024, Rano town, the headquarters of our beloved Rano emirate, was invaded by armed hoodlums,  believed to be sponsored by a yet-to-be-identified person(s), who camped at the Emir’s palaces (both the Main Place and historic Tsohon Gari Palace),” the letter stated.

The residents, therefore, consider their intrusion as a threat to the security of lives and property and a total disrespect to the recent ban of the Police Commissioner that non-state security actors should stop providing services in the state.

The letter stated that the emirate of Rano is inhabited by peaceful residents who go about their businesses without trouble.

However, the recent tussle of emirates in state, brought tension and discontent because many people shared the notion that their opinions as major stakeholders were not respected.

“The recent emirates tussle in Kano State, however, had brought about a lot of tension and discontent to the residents, as many felt that their opinions, as stakeholders, were not respected,” the letter added.
