Health authorities announced on Monday that Zambia has seen a rise in COVID-19 cases following the recent cold season.
During a press briefing, Minister of Health Sylvia Masebo stated that approximately 3,070 tests were conducted between May and June, with 2.4 per cent positive testing. This increased from the 1.5 per cent positivity rate recorded in previous months.
The new cases have been reported in six of the country’s 10 provinces, with Lusaka Province recording the highest number of infections. Between January and June this year, Zambia has recorded 4,770 COVID-19 cases.
Additionally, Masebo noted an uptick in respiratory and influenza-like illnesses due to the cold and dry conditions. The ministry has intensified efforts to detect viruses and other pathogens in response.
