How Your Air Fryer May Be Exposing You To Cancer, Other Health Risks

Air Fryer Phthalates Cancer

Certain air fryers have been found to contain toxic materials like phthalates linked to breast cancer and endocrine disruption.

Air fryers are famous for reducing oil usage in cooking, achieving a texture similar to deep frying with hot air instead of copious amounts of oil. This method can lower calorie intake and reduce harmful compounds from traditional frying. However, some air fryers may contain toxic elements that leach into food during cooking, posing health risks.

The primary concern is the materials used in some air fryers. Non-stick coatings in certain models contain perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which can break down at high temperatures and contaminate food. PFAS exposure is associated with hormonal disturbances and immune system impairment.

Also, plastics in some air fryers may contain bisphenol A (BPA) or phthalates, which are linked to hormonal imbalances, reproductive issues, developmental disorders, and an increased risk of cancers such as breast and prostate cancer.

These health risks are mainly related to plastic air fryers. To avoid these risks, choose air fryers made with non-toxic materials like stainless steel or glass, and check labels to ensure they are free from harmful substances.
