South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, will announce his new cabinet on Sunday night, June 30, during a live broadcast on national television, his office said.

This announcement followed extensive negotiations after the ruling African National Congress (ANC) lost its majority in the May 29 election.

The ANC, which received less than half the votes for the first time in three decades, has been working with the main opposition party, the Democratic Alliance (DA), to form a coalition government.

“The announcement will be in the form of a televised address to the nation,” the presidency spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, said. The address is scheduled for 9 p.m. (8 p.m. Nigerian time).

Two national newspapers reported a breakthrough in the negotiations, with the DA agreeing to relinquish its demand for the trade and industry portfolio.

The upcoming cabinet announcement is the final step in forming a new government after the election.
