EFCC Operatives Allegedly Looted and Vandalized Properties in Akure Night Raid

Oluyemi Fasipe, a former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Honourable Tajudeen Adefisoye and Youth Advocates in Nigeria, has alleged that the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) violated human rights, looted, and vandalised properties worth millions.

Fasipe disclosed this on his official X handle, following the night raid conducted by EFCC operatives of Ibadan Zonal Directorate, who, on “credible intelligence,” simultaneously raided an alleged “Yahoo Party” at Signature and Abah Clubs on Saturday, June 8, 2024, in Akure, Ondo State.

Fasipe revealed images and videos depicting physical assaults on female civilians in the club.

He further revealed that an officer of the Commission ordered the submission of phones to avoid being caught on camera.

According to a press statement released by EFCC, the Commission’s operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Directorate arrested 127 suspected internet fraudsters, locally known as Yahoo Boys.

The statement read in part, “The suspects have given useful information to investigators of the directorate. Items recovered from them include ten cars, phones, laptops, motorcycles, wristwatches, and many incriminating documents. They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”

Meanwhile, on November 1st of 2023, the Commission banned sting operations at night in the country.
