Former Niger Delta militant leader Ekpemupolo, known as Tompolo, who was known for blowing up oil pipelines in the region, has urged Nigerian youths to support President Bola Tinubu in his efforts to safeguard the oil sector from “socioeconomic saboteurs.”

Tompolo, now the founder of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, an outfit the Federal Government contracted private pipeline security to, made the call while hosting executives of the Youth Wing of All Progressives Congress, who came to Oporoza in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State on Saturday to present him with an award of appreciation for safeguarding the nation’s crude oil assets.

The group recognised Tompolo, whose past involvement in oil theft and vandalism contributed to the downfall of oil output in Nigeria’s oil sector, and presented him with an award of excellence.

We have decided to present Tompolo with the awards for effectively protecting the nation’s crude oil assets based on the services rendered through his organisation, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, to the country by safeguarding crude oil against theft and vandalism,” the group said.

Tompolo, while thanking the group for the award, urged Nigerian youths to work with President Tinubu to salvage the country’s oil assets.

“I thank all of you very much for leaving your various places and travelling to Oporoza here. It’s not an easy task. I believe you would have read in different newspapers that Tompolo is fighting illegal bunkering,” he said.

However, Tompolo’s Tantitita, a ₦40 billion surveillance oil pipeline contract, is one of five security outfits contracted by NNPC to tackle theft and pipeline sabotage, which have cut Nigeria’s oil exports by nearly half a million barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day (bpd).

Other companies were Global West, owned by Tompolo, Ocean Marine Solutions, Labrador Security Outfit, Asari Dokubo and a fifth undisclosed company.

Meanwhile, in support, the APC Southwest Youth Leader, Lawal Paff, said, “Tompolo has made the country proud by helping the government secure the pipelines, the action that has improved internally generated revenue.”
