Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has again voiced his deep concern over the escalating insecurity in Nigeria, which has resulted in the loss of precious lives and property damage and hindered national progress and development.

In a statement on X, Obi decried the ongoing violence that has plagued various parts of the country, curtailing the freedom and peace of Nigerians.

Obi highlighted several recent attacks, including the killing of seven mobile police officers and five residents by armed bandits in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

He also mentioned the tragic deaths of at least 30 Nigerians in separate terrorist attacks in Dutsinma and Safana Local Government Areas of Katsina State, as well as the invasion of the Bassa community in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, where 20 people were killed.

“Democracy without freedom from fear is a farce,” Obi stated, emphasising the impact of insecurity on the nation’s democratic fabric.

He stressed the urgency for the government to take decisive action to protect citizens and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Obi extended his condolences to the families of the slain police officers, the Nigeria Police Force, and all other victims of the pervasive insecurity.

He urged the government to prioritise the safety of every Nigerian, emphasising that every life matters and must be protected.

“We must not allow the killing spree to continue in our nation,” Obi stated.

“The government must act and protect the very precious lives of Nigerians and keep the nation safe by fishing out the perpetrators of these crimes and bringing them to justice.”

However, Obi believed Nigeria would overcome its challenges and prayed for eternal rest for the deceased.
